The Impact

Each year, the Big Green Commute continues to grow, measuring meaningful and increasingly significant results. In the 2019 Big Green Commute, 40 companies in the DC area walked, biked, took public transportation, carpooled, or drove electric vehicles to commute a cumulative 45,695 greener miles.

In addition to its advocacy and promotion of behavioral change, the Big Green Commute supports two local non-profits in the Washington, DC area. In 2020, ZGF has pledged $3,000 to support Community of Hope and Coalition for Smarter Growth. We encourage you to partner with the Big Green Commute and join us in supporting COH and CSG’s causes:

Coalition for Smarter Growth Logo

The Coalition for Smarter Growth is the leading organization in the DC region making the case for smart growth and a greener, better commute for everyone. To accomplish this they promote walkable, inclusive, transit-oriented communities and the land-use and transportation policies needed to make those communities flourish. By supporting the Coalition for Smarter Growth, you will further its advocacy to give more people greener commuting options  – via transit, bike, walking or carpooling – across the DC region.

Community of Hope Logo

Community of Hope (COH) a non-profit, community-based organization that creates opportunities for low-income families in Washington, DC—including those experiencing homelessness—to achieve good health, a stable home, family-sustaining income, and hope. COH’s four strategic goals are to improve the health and wellbeing of underserved communities in Washington, DC, end homelessness for families in DC, increase financial stability for the low-income families they serve, and build a thriving organization.  ZGF Architects established The Big Green Commuting Fund in 2013 to provide sustainable transit subsidies for COH’s clients to get around the city for job interviews, doctor’s appointments, and everyday errands.
